June 6, 2013 (Edmonton, Alberta) – YEG Aerocentre Inc., operating as Edmonton Shell Aerocentre, along with EIA, is pleased to announce the construction of AeroCentre 2, beginning June 2013 at the Edmonton International Airport.
AeroCentre 2 will be a premier facility, offering 43,000 SF of hangar space and 25,000 SF of passenger lounges, office and shop space. AeroCentre 2 will be located adjacent to FedEx on 56 Avenue East located, north of the main terminal.
While there are still leasing possibilities, AeroCentre 2 already has its first tenant, Davis Aircraft Services. They are an aircraft maintenance organization, certified by both Transport Canada and the FAA, thus allowing them to work on U.S. registered aircraft that frequent EIA.
AeroCentre 2 will offer a 20 passenger VIP lounge for clients and pilots with their own aircraft, an up-scale 150 seat area for air charter passengers and a premier 400 seat, secured passenger lounge for larger groups that charter air service for industrial clients (Oil & Gas and Mining) working in Northern Alberta and Northern Canada.
“The passenger lounges have been designed to meet the rapidly growing economy in Edmonton and expanding industrial charter business. I enjoy overseeing the design phase and decorating to provide a bit of ‘wow’ factor to our facilities,” added Christine Robertson, Vice President of YEG Aerocentre Inc. “Aerocentre 1 underwent extensive renovations in 2012 and our customers still tell us how impressed they are with the detail!” In addition, AeroCentre 2 is hoping to attract a deli-style, fresh food business to service the new Aerocentre and other employees working in the area. We anticipate the café to be open from 5:30am to 5:30pm, Monday to Friday. The café will meet the longstanding need to have another food outlet outside of the main EIA terminal. “We are really grateful to YEG Aerocentre Inc. for building what will be a great facility. Private and charter aviation growth has surged at EIA and we need this new capacity to meet the industry needs,” said Myron Keehn, Vice President Commercial Development at EIA. EIA has committed to extending Taxiway Romeo (R) this summer and will tie the taxiway into AeroCentre 2’s new apron. AeroCentre 2’s apron has been designed by MMM Group to handle Code C aircraft like Boeing 737s.
Construction of the AeroCentre 2 has been awarded to Petra Holdings Ltd of Leduc, Alberta.
“We are excited that we were able to award the contract to a local company who has many years of experience in the industry. We are looking forward to working closely with Rob Howe and his team at Petra,” said David Robertson, President of YEG Aerocentre Inc and a resident of Leduc. The Edmonton Shell Aerocentre was the first General Aviation Hangar and Passenger Facility at the Edmonton International Airport (1976) and the Shell brand name still denotes ‘quality’. “We are excited to have a new facility to offer to aircraft owners. I am optimistic to have the facility operational by May 2014, but we’ll see what the weather brings,” concluded David Robertson.
